I haven't really uploaded any pictures of the Vaporeon helmet that I'm working on for Anime Central, and I figured that this was a good stopping point for the moment. I've baaaasically been painting scales until my eyes want to bleed. T__T
ACen is kreeping up & I'm suuuper excited tho. :squee:

I can't wait to be done painting so I can pad it and then attach the gemstones and fabric for the fins. :D

Hey there. I saw you a few times at ACen (I don't know if you remember, but I was Shiek Friday and Kefka on Saturday.) I know I asked you then, but I totally forgot and would love to know what you made this helmet out of if you'd care to share. :meow:

Yeah I definitely remember you!!!! :D

Sorry in advanced for the length of this post hahah.

First I patterned out the helmet with craft foam, then I used those pieces to cut out the shapes I needed from the Wonderflex. With the wonderflex you have to cut out 2 pieces for every one craft foam piece you have, because you're gonna make a sandwich with the craft foam on the inside and the two pieces of wonderflex on the outside.
Kamui Cosplay has an awesome tutorial on working with Wonderflex here [link]
After the wonderflex was shaped I hotglued dowels to the helmet and shoved floral foam cones (that I had carved down) over them.
After that I paperclayed the entire thing to get a more rounded shape and then I sanded that bitch FOREEEEEEEEEVVVVVVEEEEEEERRRRRRRR. Guh. Then primed it a couple of times, did a base layer of spray paint, then painted it with acrylics.
The fins are made from chiffon that I cut and stippled with glitter glue and added gemstones to. The fins were then hot glued on along with the pearl accents. The tear drop gems on the front of the helmet were cast from resin and painted with glitter nail polish.

Hope that helps and isn't too terribly confusing!!

Thanks! I wanted to do something more than Vaporeon's original plain blue, so I figured scales would be a good fit for a mermaid-ish pokemon. ^^
